Recognizing Record-Breaking Achievements in Biliteracy

Congratulations to the 162 graduating seniors who earned a record-breaking 172 New York State Seals of Biliteracy—our highest total to date! This milestone year includes 10 students who earned the Seal in two languages, making it our most impressive achievement yet.

Celebrating Longwood Board of Education Leadership

Board President Victoria Molloy was elected to a three-year term on the N-SSBA Executive Committee—the first in district history. She and Vice President Daniel Tomaszewski received Outstanding School Board Service Awards, with Longwood as the only district to earn two. Social Studies Department Chair Named Harry C. Charles Outstanding Social Studies Chairperson

Students Complete Groundbreaking Drone and CAD Program in Partnership with Industry Leaders

Fourteen Longwood High School students were honored recently for completing the first-ever Drone and CAD pilot program—an innovative 20-week initiative designed to prepare students for high-demand energy, technology, and infrastructure careers.

Longwood High School Teacher Named “Above and BEEyond” Teacher Award Winner

Congratulations to Longwood High School French teacher Maria Portal for being selected as a recipient of the prestigious “Above and BEEyond Teacher” award, sponsored by Applebee’s. Madam Portal is one of only two outstanding educators in Suffolk County to be honored with this recognition, including a classroom sponsorship and a celebratory end-of-year party.

RoboLions Team 564 Dominate Regionals and Earn Spot at World Championships!

Congratulations to the Longwood RoboLions Team 564 and coaches John Hirdt and Jennifer Stehle for an outstanding performance at the FIRST Long Island Regional competition at Hofstra University, winning the Regional Championship. 

The RoboLions also earned the prestigious Impact Award, the highest honor of the event, securing their spot at the World Championships in Houston, Texas. 

Longwood High School Announces Class of 2025 Co-Valedictorians and Salutatorian

At this year's graduation, the Longwood High School Class of 2025 will be led by two outstanding valedictorians and a distinguished salutatorian. Emma Boles and Jared Cox have earned the title of co-valedictorian, while Joseph Caliendo has been recognized as salutatorian.

Longwood Celebrates Black History Month

Districtwide School Safety Plan

As per Commissioner Regulation Part 155.17, school districts are required to develop districtwide school safety plans in alignment with building-level emergency response plans.  A Districtwide School Safety Team has been appointed and charged with plan development.

LHS Seniors Take a Heartwarming Walk Down Memory Lane
On Tuesday, June 25, the soon-to-be graduates of the Longwood High School Class of 2024 participated in their Senior Walk—a cherished Longwood tradition since 2017.
Longwood High School Seniors Earn Seal of Civic Readiness

During a ceremony on Monday, June 3, 26 seniors were honored for earning the Seal of Civic Readiness from New York State. To achieve this prestigious honor, students engaged in various civic activities, such as organizing a voter registration drive for their peers, lobbying in Albany on educational issues, participating in the Ambassador Program at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, studying the Executive Office and presidential power at Long Island University’s Roosevelt House, and supporting local civic associations with community projects.

Tenth Grade Student Earns Top Honors in Symposium of Rising Scholars

Longwood High School senior Ray McLean won the "Most Popular Presentation" award in the online International Polygence Rising Scholars Symposium for the topic, "What are the causes and physiological implications of childhood trauma, and how does it directly manifest symptoms of stress and psychiatric disorders?" 

For over five months, Ray utilized numerous websites to read more than 90 research papers to synthesize a peer review on how childhood trauma affects different brain structures. 

Three Board Members Earn Achievement Awards Through NYSSBA

In recognition of their extensive time and effort in continuing to expand their knowledge and skills for better board governance, three of our dedicated Board members were honored at the May 9 meeting for earning achievement awards from the New York State School Board Association!

2024-2025 Budget/Bond Vote and Board Election

On Tuesday, May 21, our school community will be asked to vote on our annual school budget that will ensure that our students continue to receive a well-rounded education and an engaging learning environment, the election of three board members, and a bond proposal designed to maintain and upgrade our school district’s facilities, while we continue to expand upon opportunities and experiences for every student to reach their true potential.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Vaughn Denton Selected as a Champion of Diversity

Longwood School District’s Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel and Community Services, Dr. Vaughn Denton, was recently honored as a special guest of Legislator Caracappa at the April 9 General Meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature for being designated the Fourth Legislative District’s “Champion of Diversity” for his continuous work in recognizing and celebrating our school community’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence.

District Hosts Another Successful Annual Technology Showcase!

On Tuesday, March 26, close to 500 community members attended an exciting and interactive Districtwide Technology Showcase.

Our K-12 students and teachers demonstrated more than 100 applications of interactive instructional technologies, including BeeBots coding, i-Ready, FIRST LEGO initiatives, Esports, Book Creator, college and career-based technology pathways in networking, automotive mechanics, drones, competition-level high school robotics, and more!

Solar Eclipse - Monday, April 8, 2024


On the afternoon of April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will be visible throughout New York State. Although Nassau and Suffolk County are not in the path of totality, residents will be able to see just under 90% coverage between approximately 2:00 and 4:30 pm, with peak coverage occurring at approximately 3:26 pm. 

In preparation for the Solar Eclipse, we have arranged to have eclipse-viewing glasses available for all of our students and staff so that they may witness this natural phenomenon safely. 

Legislative Committee Meets with Senate and Assembly Officials

As part of Longwood’s long-standing commitment to advocacy for public education, a team of 28 members from our Legislative Committee, including Board President Mrs. Victoria Molloy, Superintendent Dr. Lohman, administrators, students, and community members, traveled to the New York State Capitol to meet directly with representatives from the Senate and Assembly to advocate for critical issues impacting public education.

Three members of our Longwood School community were selected as "Shining Stars" at the 23rd Annual SCOPE Education Services School District Awards dinner held on March 18, which honors distinguished individuals for their exemplary service to public education.

Longwood High School senior Gregory Cohen has been named a finalist in the prestigious 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program for his exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. He is among the top high school students nationwide to continue competing for scholarships offered in the spring.

Longwood 2024-2025 Universal Pre-Kindergarten Lottery Registration Opens

The Longwood Central School District, through participation in the New York State Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program Grant, is providing a ten-month, five days per week, 5.5 hours per day (full-day) pre-school in September 2023. The program will follow the Longwood Central School District calendar.

The Longwood High School Class of 2023 was conferred as the 60th graduating class on Friday, June 23, in an outdoor evening ceremony, with 700 graduates receiving their diplomas and celebrating their milestones and achievements with family and friends.
