Longwood High School Commencement Information

An important update from High School Principal Dr. Ahmed:
(June 23, 2023, 10:00am)

Based on the current forecast, we have decided to continue with our regular scheduled graduation ceremony for 5:30 PM this evening.

We remain hopeful that the weather forecast trends in our favor and we successfully complete our commencement without any weather related interruption.

In the case that we experience rain or thunderstorms prior to the beginning of our ceremony and we need to delay the start, we may ask parents to temporarily wait in their vehicle. If this was to happen, we will use ParentSquare to send communication through text messages and email.

Thank you all for your continued patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing our graduates and families later this evening.

An important update from High School Principal Dr. Ahmed:
(June 22, 2023, 3:00pm)

My team and I have been closely monitoring the weather as the forecast continues to change throughout the day.

At this time, we are still continuing as scheduled for our ceremony on Friday at 5:30 pm sharp however, as the current forecast shows some rain showers tomorrow night we are going to continue to monitor the weather overnight and into tomorrow morning, and you will receive another call from me tomorrow morning around 10am with the final determination of our plans for this year’s graduation ceremony.

We remain hopeful that the weather forecast trends in our favor allowing us to move ahead with our regularly scheduled ceremony tomorrow.

Additionally, I would ask that everyone please signup for ParentSquare, if you have not already done so, so that you receive any real-time emails and text messages should we need to communicate information regarding a delay or change as we approach the ceremony start time.

As an example: In the case that we experience rain or thunderstorms prior to the beginning of our ceremony we may ask parents to temporarily wait in their vehicle. If this was to happen, we will use ParentSquare to send communication through text messages and email. Additional information regarding ParentSquare is available on our website.

Again, we will continue to closely monitor the weather throughout the night and early tomorrow morning and you will hear from me again tomorrow around 10am.

Thank you all for your continued patience and understanding.  Have a wonderful evening!

An important message from High School Principal Dr. Ahmed:

First, I would like to congratulate the Class of 2023. We have so much to celebrate and cannot wait to recognize all of our students at our upcoming 60th Commencement ceremony.

As I am sure many of you are already aware, there is some predicted inclement weather in the forecast for the end of the week.

As it currently stands, we are hopeful that the weather will cooperate with our plans for our already scheduled Friday celebration however, we wanted to proactively communicate with you all in the case that we need to shift our plans.

My team and I have been closely monitoring the changing weather forecasts and will continue to do so over the coming days in order to make an informed decision regarding our potential need to change to an indoor format.

If the weather continues to show rain on Friday and Saturday we will have no choice but to move our graduation to Saturday and hold it in our High School Main Gymnasium.

Additionally, in an effort to accommodate all of our families and guests without limiting the number of attendees, If we are forced to move graduation indoors on Saturday, we will host four (4) separate graduation ceremonies.

  • Session 1 will begin at 8 am, for students with last names beginning with letters A - DE
  • Session 2 will begin at 10 am,  for students with last names beginning with letters DI - KO
  • Session 3 will begin at 12 pm, for students with last names beginning with letters Kr - P
  • Session 4 will begin at 2 pm,   for students with last names beginning with letters Q- Z

Again, at this current time, we are still scheduled to host our graduation ceremony on Friday at 5:30 pm sharp, but wanted to ensure that our families had this information in advance in order to make the appropriate plans for their families, in case we need to shift to an indoor format.

We will continue to closely monitor the weather and keep you informed with a daily update over the next few days.

Thank you all in advance for your patience and you will hear from me shortly with another update.
